Tottenham still unsure on £27m transfer even though the player really wants to sign
Thomas Frank has not decided on the future of a senior Tottenham man, even though the player wants to stay at the club.
Frank appeared wedded to the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha double-pivot in the first few months of the season, much to the frustration of Tottenham supporters, who wanted to see more creativity in the midfield.
However, the Dane has had a change of heart over recent months, with Archie Gray becoming a fixture in the middle of the park.
Frank has praised Gray for his growth this season, but it turns out that the 19-year-old’s rise has put the future of another player in doubt.
Tottenham have not decided whether to sign Joao Palhinha
TEAMtalk say that Frank still has not decided if he wants to sign Palhinha permanently at Tottenham.
The 30-year-old is currently on loan from Bayern Munich, and it is revealed that he has made it clear that he wants to remain at N17 beyond the end of the season.
Palhinha’s camp have spoken to Tottenham and has informed the club that he is very happy in London.
However, Frank has yet to decide whether the Portuguese midfielder will be part of his long-term plans at the club as his team continues to take shape.
It was previously reported in September that Tottenham were already strongly considering activating the option to make Palhinha’s move permanent.
At the time, Thomas Frank also said about Palhinha: “Very happy with Joao. He has done very well for us. Come in, helped the team, performing well, playing centre-back and still doing well. Really pleased with him.”
Spurs have two concerns regarding Palhinha
TEAMtalk point out that signing Palhinha would not entail a huge outlay, with Tottenham having the option to sign him permanently for £27m.
However, it is revealed that the former Fulham man is on a high salary, with his wages putting him on par with some of the club’s highest earners.
There are also some concerns at the club that landing Palhinha permanently may block the development pathways of Gray and Lucas Bergvall, especially given that Tottenham also want to add another midfielder to their squad this month.
