Game of Thrones: Varys’ secret plot to poison Daenerys exposed but did you spot the clues?
GAME of Thrones’ Varys tried to poison Daenerys Targaryen using one of his “little birds” before he was executed – but fans didn’t cotton on.
Varys predicted Dany going mad and tried to stop her, but viewers missed the moment that would have changed the course of history in the Seven Kingdoms had he succeeded.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Tyrion Lanister (Peter Dinklage) spent the first half of the episode trying to convince Dany not to engulf Westeros in flames with her dragon Drogon – which she did anyway.
Meanwhile, Varys (Conleth Hill) begged Jon to make a play for the Iron Throne but the Targaryen born warrior wouldn’t budge, prompting the Spider to move to Plan B.
And as they were busy with politics, he committed treason and hatched a plan to kill their Queen.

Viewers saw a young girl called Martha arriving in his chambers and telling Varys: “She won’t eat.”
Her master replied: “We’ll try again at supper” before he added: “What have I told you, Martha?”
The little assassin responded: “The greater the risk, the greater the reward.”
Varys didn’t complete his mission before Tyrion grassed him up to Danny about asking Jon to betray her.
However, Varys forgave his old friend Tryion before he was engulfed in her dragon Drogon’s fire and said he “hoped he was wrong” about Danny – which he wasn’t.

Later Dany used Drogon to execute Varys and the actor admitted he was frustrated by his character’s death.
Conleth told Entertainment Weekly: “I was very bummed to not have a final scene with [Aidan Gillen]. I was bummed not to have any reaction to him dying, if he was my nemesis.
“That’s been my feeling the last couple seasons, that my character became more peripheral, that they concentrated on others more.

“That’s fine. It’s the nature of a multi-character show. It was kind of frustrating.
“As a whole, it’s been overwhelmingly positive and brilliant, but I suppose the last couple seasons weren’t my favourite.”
