‘Baby killer’ accused of battering 10-month-old son to death is convicted of raping girl, 8
A DAD accused of killing his 10-month-old son has been convicted of raping an eight-year-old girl.
Derrick Siberon, 32, accepted a guilty plea as part of a deal on Tuesday before his now 12-year-old victim testified about the horrific assault at his trial.
Derrick Siberon, 32, will be sentenced to 10-years in prison and 20-years probation for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl
He has also been charged with first degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor after his 10-month-old son Donovan died in 2017[/caption]
The girl reported the sexual assault in April 2015 but it wasn’t until two-years later that a rape kit was sent away for DNA testing.
It was submitted for analysis shortly after Siberon was investigated over the death of his son, the CTPost reported.
Donovan Siberon was rushed to hospital after being found unresponsive in his Bridgeport, Connecticut, home in April 2017.
HEAD INJURIES AND A DETATCHED CORNEA
The 10-month-old suffered injuries to his head and a detached cornea, he died the following day.
The state medical examiner ruled that Donovan’s death was a homicide but did not reveal how he died.
Siberon was later charged with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor.

In the sexual assault case, Siberon’s plea was made shortly before his now-12-year-old victim was due to testify in court.
It was arranged as part of the a plea deal to spare the girl from having to relive the traumatic events.
The attack was reported to police in 2015 by the victim, who was accompanied by her mother and her mother’s boyfriend.
‘YOU BETTER FIND HIM BEFORE I DO’
He allegedly told police officers: “You better find him before I do.”
The child was taken to St Vincent’s Medical Center where they retrieved DNA samples.
In hospital she also told medical staff about the sexual assault.
POTENTIALLY DAMNING EVIDENCE
Later the child’s room and the family home was photographed by detectives.
Potentially damning evidence including Siberon’s belongings and his identification were retrieved from her bedroom.
The girl gave a detailed description of the then-alleged sexual assault by Siberon during interviews.
She also illustrated what she said had happened to her using anatomical drawings.
EVIDENCE KEPT FOR TWO YEARS
All evidence was allegedly kept by the police department until two years later in April 2017, when Siberon’s son Donovan died.
An affidavit states that: “Derrick (Siberon)’s whereabouts were now known and I resumed the investigation of this case”
By this point Siberon had been charged and also made a voluntary statement to police about the sexual assault.
THE ALFORD DOCTRINE
He told cops that he was in the girl’s home but denied sexually assaulting her.
Siberon pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine to first degree sexual assault on Tuesday.
This type of plea means that he does not confess to the crime but admits that he could be found guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
