AS the head of the Royal Family, The Queen receives a mind-boggling amount of letters from the public each and every day.
Her Majesty can reportedly get up to 300 letters a day from royal fans and Heads of State, according to The Telegraph.
The Queen reads all her post while sitting in her favourite chair at each of her royal residences, a source has claimed[/caption]Although palace staff help the Queen with her official correspondence, Her Majesty actually takes the time to read all her letters from the public – and she does so while sitting in her favourite armchairs at Buckingham Palace, Sandringham and Balmoral.
A royal source told Fabulous Digital: ” The palace staff refer to letters from strangers are as ‘dead letters’ and they are brought to her in a wicker basket which is placed on a table in her sitting room next to her favourite chair.
“She goes through every letter – it may be a beautifully presented one, on lovely paper with calligraphy, or something scribbled on a page torn from a notebook.”
Naturally, The Queen doesn’t have the time to reply to every message – but there’s a system in place to make sure they all receive a response.
This year, The Queen has sent out 750 Christmas cards[/caption]“Each one is acknowledged by an assistant private secretary; the important ones are dealt with by her private secretary, and the really contentious ones are forwarded to the Home Office,” the source continued. “Letters from children get a reply from one of her Ladies in Waiting.”
The source added: “They always start with the phrase ‘Her Majesty was most interested in your letter and has commanded me to reply..’
“A letter to the Queen can get results. They are passed on with a note that ‘Her Majesty would like to know the progress of this matter’ and it’s amazing how swiftly the Government Department concerned springs into action.”
Earlier this week, Fabulous Digital exclusively revealed that The Queen buys £620 gifts costing £30,000 for staff and family” and sends 750 Christmas cards in total.
