HUMAN remains have been found in a river as police launched an urgent probe and public plea for information.
Cops were called to the scene at the River Severn in Cressage, Shropshire, just before 9.15pm last night.
A member of the public spotted what they believed to be human remains in the water last night – triggering the probe.
Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
Officers confirmed that the remains were human – and they said it’s believed the body had been in the water for a “significant amount of time.”
The grim discovery has triggered a probe as the death is being treated as unexplained.
All lines of enquiry are being explored, cops said.
Their priority is to identify the body found in the water as the investigation into the mystery continues.
Detective Chief Inspector John Weaver said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
“Our priority at this stage is to identify the deceased.
“The remains are being forensically examined and the results will determine the next steps in our investigation.
“This could be a lengthy process but we will update the public in due course.”
