I’m a single mum & live in a van with my daughter – it’s so cramped we shower in the kitchen sink but I love it
LIVING in a van might not be for everyone, but single Bathsheva and her daughter Sarah love their camper van lifestyle – even if it is a bit cramped.
The mum and daughter duo now travel in their home on wheels full time all over the United States.
They showed their home to Tiny Home Tours and explained how they make such a small space work full-time.
Since Bathsheva teaches people the importance of healthy eating on the road the kitchen was a major part of the van renovation for her.
The DIY whizz added in a few wooden shelves to keep fresh fruit and vegetables as well ass two kitchen cupboards for extra storage.
As for the sink, the mum installed it herself and keeps a two gallon carton of water in there to drink from and another seven gallons stored under the sink.
“That’s for shower showers and for dishes, we also have a water heater under the sink so we get instant hot water,” she explained.
Bathsheva and Sarah share a Queen-size bed which is boarded by shelves for extra clothes storage and Sarah’s books.
The space under the bed is Sarah’s playroom and is jam-packed with toys, books and clothes.
“I wanted my daughter to have enough space to sit under [the bed] and play, even though she barely does it and she sits on the bed.
“We still really like it, it’s very comfortable,” the mum said.
The space doubles up as a bed for their dog, Chilli, who travels with them as well.
The back of the van works at a garage for the pair, who use it for extra storage, art supplies and beach toys as well as their solar connection.
Since Sarah is in school they live in the city on weekdays and travel around on weekends and during school breaks.
The pair decided to move into a van when her business closed down during covid and she was “looking for something to do.”
Although Sarah was 4-years-old at the time, the mum bought the van, converted it in two months and hasn’t looked back since.
Viewers were obsessed with the tiny van and praised Bathsheva’s transforamtion.
One person commented: “I love how much she took her daughter into consideration and made sure she had an amazing space and everything she needs. This is a great build.”
A second said: “I absolutely adore self builds, this one is awesome. Well laid out plan.”
“What a beautiful home you have made for you both.
“Be proud. What great experiences Sara will have and such wonderful memories with her Mom,” someone else wrote.
