Coronation Street boss teases new romance for Max Turner with unlikely love interest after horrific terror plot
TROUBLED lad Max Turner has been put through the wringer amid a dark grooming storyline.
But Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod vowed romance will be in the cards for him.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel for the teen portrayed by Paddy Bever.
After being expelled from Weatherfield High and bullied by his peers, Max was lured into a far-right group by Griff Reynolds’ who immediately preyed on his vulnerability.
The unlikely and dangerous friendship turned sour and Max faces hefty legal trouble as Griff’s plan put many lives in danger.
His involvement with the extremist gang isolated him from everyone and Max has only had his father David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) relentlessly fighting his corner.
Max has no choice but to face the music and will be sentenced to six months in a detention centre for inciting hatred.
But Iain MacLeod teased a “happy ending” for Max once his current storyline draws to a close.
Speaking on Loose Women, Iain explained it was important for bosses to show there’s always hope for anybody going “down the wrong path” to be pulled back onto the straight and narrow.
“Yes, he’s going to get a happy ending in the end”, he first said.
“It felt important that we showed a story where someone that has gone that far down the wrong path, there is the chance to pull them back.”
“And the story at its heart was supposed to be about a family dealing with how you communicate with a teenager that’s gone this far off-track, and how do you bring them back into the fold and how do you redeem them?”
Iain dropped very small and subtle hints about Max’s “unlikely love interest” and it will turn everything around over the year.
“So there’s a happy ending, it involves a love story.”
“He meets this incredibly unlikely love interest and it’s really funny… at the risk of making it sound like a tonal collision, we go from that really serious story we’ve told and it’s evolved into a romcom almost over the course of the next 12 months.”

The new romance will come following an ill-fated relationship with Lauren Bolton, portrayed by Cait Fitton.
As viewers of the Manchester-based program will remember, Max met the character in Griff’s flat, at the early stages of his involvement with the far-right gang.
Lauren’s father Reece was part of the group and she was used in an attempt to groom Max into joining them.
She fled from Weatherfield in January, after Alya Nazir put her life on the line to get rid of a bomb planted by Griff and his accomplices in a Speed Daal van.
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
