I couldn’t afford anywhere to live so bought a bus instead – it was super cheap and now I save thousands on rent
A WOMAN has revealed that she couldn’t find somewhere affordable to live, so bought a bus instead.
Ailie Banks lives in a bus in New South Wales in Australia, with her partner Adam and their pets – a dog and a cat.
The freelance artist and community worker explained that she and Adam had a trip overseas planned, but the pandemic meant that it was cancelled.
As a result, the pair used the money and time to give a rundown bus the ultimate transformation.
They now live in their bus full-time and in the process have managed to save lots of money on renting.
In a clip shared to the social media app, she said: “I live in a bus I built with my partner because we’re in a housing affordability crisis.”
She confirmed that the bus cost the couple £8,600 and it took them two years (and counting) to give it a mega transformation.
Ailie explained that the bus is on her friend’s land and is surrounded by greenery.
In a clip posted on TikTok, Ailie gave social media users a look around her unique home.
Ailie’s home is complete with a modern kitchen, a cosy sofa area, a stunning bathroom and a small bedroom area.
It looks great and clearly many others thought so too, as her clip has quickly racked up 43.9k views.
It has 4,335 likes, 122 comments and 116 shares.
Social media users were very impressed with Ailie’s home on wheels and took to the comments to express this.
One person said: “Love it!! It’s gorgeous! That bathroom is amazing, I’m very jealous” to which Ailie explained “I did cry many times during the tiling process but it turned out cute.”
Another added: “Looks awesome.”
A third commented: “This is amazing. I’d rather this than my house.”
Someone else noted: “Ok but this is my dream.”
A fifth posted: “Wow I thought it would be smaller inside. There’s so much space!”
Meanwhile, one user asked: “Is it stationary or can u drive it still?” to which Ailie replied “Still drives but not designed as a mover, just will be moving it from A to B.”
Another user questioned: “Does the front door have a lock? Do you ever feel unsafe there at night?” to which Ailie stated “Yep we have a lock but never feel unsafe we are on the back of a Mates place so always people around.”
