Shoppers are rushing to The Range to pick up little-known bargain that helps save money in the kitchen
A NEW TikTok hack shows shoppers how they can buy herbs and spices at a fraction of their supermarket cost.
In the video, user maddykate01, who posts home and life hacks to her 115,000 TikTok followers, demonstrates how herbs and spices purchased from retailer The Range is a guaranteed money-saver.
The Range sells a wide range of accessories for your home and outdoor space, from fun kitchen gadgets to DIY craft materials.
But the store also boasts a bevy of herbs and spices.
Presented in 240g jars with minimalist packing, the wide range of seasonings are an inexpensive alternative to branded spices on supermarket shelves.
In the clip, Maddy says: “Here’s a money saving tip not many people know about. You can buy loads of different dried herbs and spices in bulk at The Range.
“These pots are around 245g, so about five times the size of the ones you get in supermarkets, for only around £1 more expensive.” In the video she shows off the impressive selection of spices, with some costing £3.99, and other slightly cheaper at £2.79.
One said: “I got some from Costco and the wholesales! They’re amazing! Need to check the range now.”.
Another user seethed: “It’s criminal how much the supermarkets charge. they are literally 20p any other country.”
However, some pointed flaws in the proposed hack.
One mentions: “You could also just go to a local international store which sell packets of these for about a sixth of the price.”
While spice aisles are visible in most supermarkets, world food sections stock the same items in larger quantities for a cheaper price in the long term.
In supermarket Morrison’s, for example, Schwartz curry powder retails for £1.65 for 38g, which is 43.4p per 10g.
Similarly, Morrison’s own brand curry powder is sold for £1.13 for 90g, which will cost you 12.6p per 10g.
However, Rajah’s curry powder is priced at £50 per 100g, which equates to a paltry 5p per 10g.
