I’m a plumber and swear by three household staple ingredients to unblock sinks in minutes and you won’t need a plunger
BATHROOM and kitchen sinks can become blocked easier than you might think.
All that soap scum, grime and stray bits of food can end up filling the the pipes and can be pricey to fix professionally.
But you don’t need to fork out your hard earned cash, or even reach for a plunger, to fix the problem.
Your sink can still be blocked even if it’s still draining but slowly – any gargling sounds and even grim smells could be a sign something’s wrong.
Speaking to Express.co.uk the pros from My Plumber shared some quick and easy ways to banish blockages.
Here are some of the best ways to keep things flowing:
Baking soda
Using baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda, is one of the cheapest ways to free a blockage in your drain.
Just pour boiling water straight down the plughole followed by a cup of baking soda.
Wait a few minutes before adding a cup of white vinegar, then let it work it’s magic for around five minutes before flushing it out with more boiling water.
Washing powder
There are loads of ways you can make the most of your washing powder – and unblocking your sink is just one of them.
The plumbing pros suggested sprinkling two tablespoons of biological washing powder down the plughole.
Follow this with boiling water and wait a few minutes before repeating the process until the blockage is gone.
Soda crystals
If you’ve got soda crystals hiding in the back of your cupboards you can put them to use.
You’ll need to pour some boiling water directly down the plughole, followed by one cup of the crystals.
Wait five minutes before following up with more boiling water.
