I turned an IKEA Kallax unit into a wardrobe for my daughter – it was way cheaper and has tonnes more storage too
A SAVVY mum-to-be has revealed how she turned an IKEA Kallax unit into an adorable wardrobe for her daughter – and people are obsessing over the final product.
Charlie shared how she removed four shelves from the square IKEA shelving unit to create hanging space for her unborn child’s clothes.
Not only has this created a load of extra storage in their nursery, but also worked out far cheaper than buying a brand-new wardrobe.
In a new TikTok reel, Charlie, known online as @char_txx, said: “Just wanted to show how I turned this IKEA Kallax unit into a wardrobe for my daughter’s nursery.
“So my idea was to remove a section of shelving to put in rails so that we could hang the clothes up.
“I removed the top of the uni and started removing the shelves.
“If you are thinking of doing this, then bear in mind you have to remove the boards that are vertical because the ones that are horizontal are longboards that go from one end of the unit to the other, not small ones like these ones.
“So you’ll have to remove the vertical ones and then flip the whole unit on its side.
She continued: “We put the unit back together again and you’ll be able to see what I mean now.
“The gap that we’ve created is going horizontal, and obviously we need it to be vertical, so we flip the whole thing over onto its side and this is what it looks like.
“For the rails, I ordered these tension rods from eBay.
“They’re really easy to put in, all you have to do is just twist them until they’re tight, and then they just lock into place.
“And this is how it turned out.
“I’m just going to get some nice baskets and decorations for the shelves, and I can’t wait to start putting all of her things in it and making it look nice.”
In the comments, she added; “I already had the unit and would of had to get rid of it to fit a wardrobe so thought might as well use it as it only cost £5 for the rails.”
Shoppers can pick up the square Kallax unit online and in IKEA stores, priced at £115.
Fans loved her crafty idea, with the video gaining more than 23,200 likes and 377,900 views.
In the comments, other TikTok users shared their thoughts on her use of the popular piece of IKEA furniture, with one writing: “Fabulous idea. I’d do both sides and secure the rods with screws. Thank you for sharing.”
“Brilliant. looks stunning as well,” another added.
Someone else put: “That’s ace!!!! what a good idea.”
