Mum shares “elite” £5 dinner using budget tinned meat from M&S… but it’s got people talking
A MUM-OF-THREE has shared her ultimate £5 dinner to feed the family – but her choice of ingredients has got people talking.
The Tik Tok chef made “elite” chilli cheese baguettes and warned people “it’s not a diet recipe”.
The baguette filling included tinned mince meat from Marks & Spencer mixed with chilli con carne seasoning.
The mum, who posts under the alias Cook Me Sideways, laughed: “Yeah it’s the lazy way, shoot me.”
However, viewers were concerned the dish might be too lazy and one even called it “foul”.
Critics claimed that they couldn’t get on board with using tinned minced meat.
One penned: “I don’t care if it’s from Harrods, minced beef in a can is foul.”
A second asked: “Why not just buy a tin of chilli? Job done.”
The mum clapped back that she would usually do the dinner from scratch but the recorded recipe was an alternative for when she’s in a rush.
Once the baguettes were in the oven for seven minutes, she took them out to spoon the chilli in.
The home chef explained: “You want them dead fat.
“Put loads of it in.
“Don’t be shady with the filling – it’s not a diet recipe.”
The filled baguettes were topped off with grated mozzarella before going under the grill to melt the cheese.
Cook Me Sideways advised: “Cover it as much as you can.
“Just go wild with the mozzarella.
“You want a good thick layer of it.”
She then asked: “Can you see how fat the baguettes have gone?
“Because it’s been weighed down with the chilli.”
Despite critics of tinned mince meat taking to the comments, other people expressed how nice they thought the £5 meal looked.
One beamed: “Oh my God, this looks delish.
“Runs straight to Marks & Spencer for that minced beef… nobody got time for cooking.”
Another added: “That looks amazing.”
