Brianna Ghey’s cause of death confirmed after transgender teen, 16, stabbed to death in Warrington tragedy
BRIANNA Ghey’s cause of death has today been confirmed after the teen was tragically stabbed in a Warrington park.
The 16-year-old was found fatally wounded on a footpath by passersby on February 11.
Brianna, who was transgender, sadly died at the scene – with police later charging two 15-year-olds for murder.
An inquest into Brianna’s death was today opened.
During the hearing, Cheshire Police Detective Inspector Nigel Parr said confirmed the transgender teen had been found “unresponsive” at Linear Park in Culcheth.
The senior investigating officer for the incident said paramedics rushed to the path where members of the public found Brianna but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Parr said a post mortem was carried out at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, and the teen’s mother Esther identified her.
He said: “The investigation is a murder investigation and two individuals have been charged with the murder of Brianna.”
The hearing Warrington Coroner’s Court lasted just two minutes, and none of the teen’s family were present.
Senior coroner for Cheshire Jacqueline Devonish opened and adjourned the inquest until after the murder trial.
She set a date for a pre-inquest hearing on August 17.
A boy and girl, both 15, have been charged with Brianna’s murder and are set to go to trial at Liverpool Crown Court on July 10.
The pair cannot be named because of their age.
Now, the teen will be farewelled next Wednesday.
Her pink-themed funeral is set to begin at 2.45pm at St Elphin’s Church in Warrington.
Meanwhile, vigils were held across the country for Brianna in the days that followed her tragic death.
Hundreds of mourners gathered with candles in hand to honour the 16-year-old.
