Paul O’Grady’s Avengers actress best friend reveals his final moments in emotional appearance on GMB
PAUL O’Grady’s final moments were revealed by his best friend who choked up when addressing his tragic death.
Avengers actress Linda Thorson, 75, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, following the much-loved broadcaster’s death at 67 yesterday.
The Tara King star let slip a swear word – which prompted Good Morning Britain anchor Susanna Reid to apologise – during the emotional segment.
Yet she then opened up on Lily Savage star Paul‘s final moments.
She became teary as she said: “Well, I can’t believe it.
“Just to hang up the phone and hours later for someone to die, who was so happy, full of life.”
Revealing Paul’s last moments, she said: “But he died in his own bed.
“His husband was there, Andre, who has been with for so many years.
“The most divine man, he is only 41, he worships Paul.
“He gave a speech at Paul’s 60th birthday. And Cilla was there and Barbara Windsor, they’re gone.
“They’ll all be partying in Heaven you know. And the Queen.”
Earlier in the chat, Linda recalled the pair’s final phone call.
She said: “Paul rung me on Tuesday at 3PM and we spoke for an hour.
“It was one of the best conversations we have ever had.”
Yesterday, a host of celebrities paid tribute to Paul.
Paul’s husband of 11 years Andre Portasio announced his death in the early hours of this morning, saying: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.
“We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.
“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.
“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”
Paul’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but he had struggled with his health in recent years.
The Brit personality made a name for himself in comedy, and television – and later became known for his love of dogs.
