I’m a vet – dog owners make the same mistake when buying toys for their pets… getting it right makes a huge difference
A VET has revealed the most common mistake dog owners make when buying toys for their pooches.
TikToker @petlabco took to social media to warn animal-lovers from falling into the same marketing trap that’s cheating their dogs.
The short video showed a range of dogs playing at homes and parks with the ubiquitous “bone chew toy”.
In the clip, however, the toy was a foreign baby blue colour compared to a real bone.
As the footage continued, the woman explained the logic of the colour.
She said: “Number one mistake, buying the wrong colour dog toys – dogs do not see colours in the same way that we do.
“Red and green colours appear greyish to them, however, they can see blue and yellow tones.”
The video has more than 10,000 views, with other pet owners left baffled.
“Man my dog’s favourite toy colour is green and you cannot convince him to go for anything else,” a TikToker said.
“I thought dogs can see a range of different colours,” one added.
“Bollocks, my dog’s favourite toy is red and green,” a second remarked.
“I usually buy my dog the same colour for everything so it all matches,” another commented.
The vet influencer’s claims were backed up by experts at VCA animal hospitals.
According to the veterinarian organisation, human and animal eyes vary in their vision capabilities.
In a statement, the group said: “Human eyes have three types of cones that can identify combinations of red, blue and green.
“Dogs possess only two types of cones and can only discern blue and yellow – this limited colour perception is called dichromatic vision.”
