Beloved BBC comedy axed after five seasons as show boss pays emotional tribute to fans
A BELOVED BBC comedy has been axed after five seasons and the show’s boss has paid an emotional tribute to fans.
The broadcaster confirmed Ghosts will come to an end once its fifth series has aired.
Filming has now wrapped on the show and the team has decided to “wave goodbye to the inhabitants of Button House”.
The Ghosts team announced on social media today: “After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace. We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can’t wait to share it with you all later this year.
“We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support.
“But most of all we’d like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben x.”
The popular series sees a young couple inherit a rickety mansion in the countryside with an idea of developing it into a hotel.
However, a group of spirits are reluctant to leave and restlessly haunt the abode.
Developed by the Horrible Histories team, the show made its debut in 2019 and has been a hit with viewers.
The fourth series launched in Autumn 2022, and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy.
Fans have been left devastated by the announcement, with one saying: “My absolute favourite comedy of recent times & led me on to watch ‘Horrible Histories’.”
A second said: “Oh so sad and will really miss it. But like all good shows it knows when to end on a high.”
“That’s a shame. I love Ghosts. Well done to the team on a great show,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “Absolutely gutted about this!”
