People are only just realising there’s part of your microwave you absolutely need to clean… and it’s probably disgusting
NO ONE likes being told there is another part of their house they need to clean.
But with energy bills as high as they are it’s important we keep all of our appliances in tip top condition.
It seems there is one appliance we may have been neglecting and that is the microwave.
Most microwaves have vents underneath them that cleaning experts recommend you clean once a month.
One cleaning fan who goes by @cleaningvideos online shared her simple method for cleaning her microwave vents in a TikTok video.
She said: “Did you know you’re supposed to clean the vents under your microwave?”
“I was today years old when I found out you’re supposed to clean the vents under your microwave.”
First you unplug your microwave and make sure you aren’t taking out the vents just after the microwave has been used.
The vents should be easy to take out but you may want to grab a butter knife to assist you.
Once you have the vents pop them in the sink use hot water and dish soap; allow it to sit for a few minutes, and then get scrubbing with a hard bristle brush.
If you encounter tricky grease stains, try adding some baking soda to the hot water to allow for easier scrubbing.
You should see a visible colour difference when you have finished.

Before you put the vents back make sure they are fully dry.
If you are waiting for the vents to dry you could give the inside of your microwave a little clean as well.
Cleaning experts recommend you change your microwave vents to keep them in top condition because they ensure you exhaust fans are working efficiently.
The microwave event cleaning video gained over 59,000.
