Beyond Paradise’s DI Humphrey Goodman returns to Saint Marie after shock split from fiancée
BEYOND Paradise’s DI Humphrey Goodman will return to the Caribbean next week after a heartbreaking split from fiancée Martha Lloyd.
The detective was left in tears tonight as Martha called time on their relationship and handed her engagement ring back after a late night heart to heart on a boat.
In a heart-wrenching scene, Martha told Humphrey she couldn’t marry him due to fears he would grow to resent her for not giving him children.
Despite his pleas that that simply wouldn’t happen, Martha was unwilling to find out and left him aboard the boat.
And it looks like Humphrey’s return to Death In Paradise’s Guadeloupe is some sort of tonic to mend his broken heart as he could be heard raising concerns about seeing Martha everyday in a trailer for the series finale.
The unlucky in love Brit, played by Kris Marshall, was the leading man in Death in Paradise for three series before starring in its spin-off show.
But for one episode only, he’s back in the glorious sunshine of Saint Marie in a cross-over fans will love, even if it is sparked by heartache.
In a short teaser clip, emotional Humphrey walks barefoot across the sand to a familiar beach hut.
As he tentatively approaches, he says to a little green lizard: “Hello, old friend.”
Of his return to the island, actor Kris said: “I was honoured and delighted to return to Guadeloupe as part of Humphrey’s journey in Beyond Paradise, and to rekindle my deep passion for the island.”
Beyond Paradise is filmed in picturesque, though slightly less tropical, Devon and follows DI Humphrey solving crimes in Martha’s hometown.
In the final episode of the hugely popular BBC series, the Shipton Abbott police team are faced with a seemingly impossible case to crack.
A burglary seems clear-cut at first when the thief’s unusual calling card matches that of local criminal Atticus Styles (Spencer Jones), but when the forensic evidence comes back, it all points to another suspect.
The only problem is the suspect, Hayley Collins (Hannah Traylen), was locked up in a police cell by PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) at the time of the crime.
Meanwhile, still reeling from recent events, DI Humphrey’s mind is elsewhere as he considers his future in Shipton Abbott.
The Beyond Paradise series finale will air on BBC One and iPlayer next Friday April 7, 8pm.
