Dad issues shocking warning about kids digging holes on the beach and says all parents need to be aware of the dangers
A DAD has issued a stark warning on the dangers of your kids digging holes at the beach.
While you may remember yourself doing it when you were younger, the dad revealed there was a very good reason to think twice about it.
Taking to his TikTok account @shawny816 he revealed the dangers that parents need to be aware of when visiting the beach on holiday.
While speaking to the camera, his son was in the background attempting to dig a hole around himself while playing in the sand.
Shawn said: “I know this seems like a very innocent, productive thing, everybody does this when the kids go to the beach.
“They dig a hole.”
He revealed that there was an incident with two teenagers at a beach in New Jersey of May last year.
Teenager, Levi Caverly, and his sister were digging a deep hole when it collapsed in and killed the young boy reports the New York Post.
The dad continued: “So be very careful, do not let your kids dig a hole on the beach.”
And the Dad isn’t the only one issuing warnings of the dangers of digging deep holes at the beach.
Cornish coastguards have also spoken out against the seemingly innocent beach activity reports Falmouth Packet.
Writing on the coastguard’s social media page, they said: “Sand hole collapses are rare but can be lethal if you become trapped in one.
“There’s nothing wrong with digging holes at the beach and filling them with water for your kids to play in.
“But if you dig a hole so deep that your head is barely poking out or burrow into a sand dune then you could be putting your life at risk.
“If it’s taken you three hours to dig your hole – that’s how long, it might take someone to dig you out.
“These deeper types of holes are highly unstable.
“The wet harder sand that you dig out will dry out in the sun making it lose and the deeper you dig the more danger there is of the hole collapsing inwards and potentially trapping you inside.”
People were quick to respond to Shawn’s video, and many agreed it was a dangerous activity to do and thanked him for sharing the warning.
One person wrote: “Thank you, good to know.”
Another commented: “I always stop people from doing that, thank you!”
“Exactly,” penned a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth added: “Yes i know, it’s so so dangerous.”
“Firefighter… happens more often than people think, thank you,” claimed a fifth.
