My parents named me after something really awkward – my teacher didn’t know how to react
A WOMAN with a cute-sounding forename has shared its not-so-cute meaning.
School teachers never knew how to deal with it, which led to some awkward classroom situations.
Nonetheless, Camryn (@camryn.sic) has borne it all with a wide smile and good humor.
That is evident in her TikTok where she pledges to her 102,000 followers to be, “funny on a good day.”
In a post to her platform, she decided to take part in a viral trend: “The meaning of your name trend,” she said.
She revealed that her name had its roots in Gaelic antiquity, hailing from the heart of Scotland.
It is a derivative of a traditional Scottish name – both as a forename and surname – Cameron (in Scottish Gaelic Camshron).
Back in the mists of time, Clan Cameron was said to be descended from a Danish prince, who had a distinctive crooked nose.
Hence the meaning of her name: Cam for “crooked” and Sròn for “nose.”
Once Camryn’s teacher learned of the meaning, she was at a loss to know what to do.
Camryn explained: “Once in class, we had to draw what our name meant.
“My teacher told me to just draw a princess when she found out what mine meant.”
So, as a way of introduction to her post, she said: “Hi, I’m the girl with the crooked nose.”
Many shared the meanings behind their names in the comments section.
A fan called Sienna said: “I’m a kind of ferruginous earth used as a pigment in painting, normally yellowish brown in color.”
“Mine is Trinity,” another follower said. “I’m God, the Father, and the holy ghost.”
Camryn was not on her own. Many shared her name and her experiences.
“Literally the same,” said this Camryn. “I was so sad in kindergarten.”
Finally, some sympathy for another Camryn: “It’s ironic because my nose has always been my biggest insecurity,” she confessed.
