I hated having the same, bog-standard garden as everyone else so decided to transform it myself – it looks SO expensive
A DIY pro has revealed how she transformed her bog-standard garden into a chic-looking patio – and now people are questioning if it’s the same garden.
Alex shared how painting her tiles, building a new fence, adding some chic sleeper boxes and splashing out on some new furniture helped her achieve the final result.
Known online as @casalawson, Alex regularly shares interior design ideas and DIY tips with her 62,700 followers.
Sharing before and after pictures of her garden in a new TikTok reel, Alex said: “How did I go from this…to this.”
Before she got to work, her rectangular back garden was mostly covered in natural grass, with small grey path and patio running along the right hand side.
She then shared a clip of her garden now – totally transformed, with mosaic printed tiles covering the floor, and large sleeper boxes filled with a range of plants and bushes.
Her fences has also been transformed, with light-brown, horizontal slats now running along the length which helps is appear longer.
At the back, Alex has created a cosy seating area with an egg chair, fireplace and a outdoor sofa.
Fans loved the transformation, with the video gaining more than 188,500 likes and 4.3 million views.
In the comments, TikTok users shared their reactions – and despite loving the garden glow up, many were distracted how close her neighbours appeared to be.
One wrote: “It’s beautiful, but how overlooked is that garden, not remotely private.”
“Is that the same garden,” commented another.
A third added: “How? … It probably involves lots of £££’s that’s how!”
In a few other videos, Alex explains how she did various parts of the makeover, including the mosaic tiles that now cover the entire space.
She said: “These aren’t tiles, they’re my patio slabs and I painted them using masonry paint.
“First of all I got to work with two coats of pure brilliant white, and then once that was dry I went in with my Dizzy Duck design stencil. These can be tailored to any size.
“I used masking tape to make sure the stencil didn’t move and the trick here is patience, and super thin coats of paint.
“I sealed with no nonsense patio and concrete sealer, and this is the final result.
“I absolutely love it.”
Below the video, she added: “Garden patio slabs turned tiles.
“This is such a great DIY, cost me £60 and lasted 18-months before needing [to be] redone!”
Shoppers can pick up masonry paint and patio sealant from various retailers, including Wickes, with prices starting at just £18 for each.
The Dizzy Duck stencils come in a range of shapes and sizes, ranging between £25 and £30.
