The former music mogul confirmed that eight acts would go straight through to the live finals.
He said: “There were more Golden Buzzers this year. We have eight.”
Usually only five acts get the coveted spot, but the head judge says the audience intervened and forced producers to come up with a new rule on the spot.
The TV personality revealed: “I don’t want to give too much away but there was one Golden Buzzer moment.
“I think in all the years, I’ve done this show because, you know, it wasn’t really supposed to happen because we run out [of buzzers].”
“It was kind of chaotic at this moment because the audience really dictated it, they did not let this go [for this act]. They’re not going to leave.
“So we kind of said you know what, why don’t we just give the audience a Golden Buzzer.”
The former X Factor judge then admitted that he was happy with this decision, but due to the nature of the format, he thinks it was the right decision.
He exclaimed: “I don’t think there’s ever been a rulebook for this show. That’s been the best thing about doing the show!”
Meanwhile, Amanda Holden, 52, hinted that is angry with her choice, not because of the act itself, but because of how repetitive her personality can be.
She interjected: “Mine is so bl***y predictable, I could kill myself”
“Every year I go, don’t press it for ‘this’. And then they come on stage and I’m like, ‘Oh my god it’s this.’
“And I try to stop myself from doing it, and then I see my hand, my claws, my old lady hand comes down and press the buzzer and then I burst into tears.”
Whilst Simon confirmed he was proud of his choice, adding: “Sometimes you almost know before they perform, that something amazing is going to happen.
“With my Golden Buzzer, Yeah, it was absolutely incredible. I’ve seen it back and yeah, it’s amazing.”
Simon has hinted that the new series of the show will be more spontaneous than ever before with the addition of Bruno Tonioli to the panel[/caption]
