Jamie T helps fan to propose and rips off his shirt during Indie reunion night at Finsbury Park Festival
JAMIE T helped a fan to propose and ripped off his football top in what felt like a reunion night of Indie celebration at Finsbury Park Festival.
The noughties legend headlined the first show of the weekend with Pulp taking on the Saturday night followed by The 1975 on Sunday.
It was Jamie Treays‘ biggest ever headline performance and it came off the back of him scoring his first number one album, The Theory of Whatever, last year.
The Londoner kicked off the show with new song Hippodrome which he released last week.
Oozing with brazen confidence, he tore through 19 songs while swigging lager and dressed in black adidas shorts, a blue shirt and a cap.
The mood was euphoric as thousands of friends jumped together to the soundtrack of their youths and broke into shouty chants of “Jamie f*****g T” at every pause in the set.
It was “a family affair” for Jamie too.
He invited The Maccabees’ former guitarist Hugo White on stage to perform on Sticks ‘N’ Stones, and thanked him for handing him his first guitar aged 16.
It was the seed from which his 2007 debut single Sheila grew, and his follow up hits Back In The Game, Emily’s Heart and Spider’s Web.
Jamie played them all and the crowds were woozy with admiration.
With a Shane McGowan-smile, Jamie told them headlining there was the “biggest moment of my life,” but he didn’t mind sharing it with Craig and Zoe who were somewhere out there enjoying the show.
He couldn’t see them yet gave them a night they’d never forget when he popped the question for Craig, and she said “yes”.
Jamie admitted the romantic tangent felt “weird” so it was only right that he asked for a cheeky invitation to the do.
Closing on If You Got the Money, he returned to more applause in a vintage AFC Wimbledon shirt, but then ripped it off, and everyone roared to the opening bars of Zombie for his final song.
More chants of “Jamie f******g T” erupted in a dreamlike haze and fireworks filled the sky.
Support on the night came from Idles who made their only UK live appearance of the summer to perform fan favourites Never Fight a Man With a Perm, and Mr Motivator.
