BAKE Off: The Professionals has sparked a new row over animal cruelty.
Channel 4 was come under fire by animal rights group PETA over scenes that featured puppy yoga on the baking show.
Liam Charles, 25, and new host Ellie Taylor, 39, welcomed a fresh batch of new pastry chefs to compete for the ultimate title on Bake Off: The Professionals.
Contestants Nicoletta and Georgina, from the Meraki Baking Studio were shown to be enjoying a session of puppy yoga.
The pair of cooks were shown practising yoga poses in a warehouse gym space as adorable puppies bustled around them.
But even though the pair were shown to embrace and cuddle the cute canines, the show has come under fire.
he animal rights organisation has demanded the commercial broadcaster axe the segment.
PETA’s VP of programmes Elisa Allen said the rights organisation has demands the broadcaster axe the segment.
They explained: “Peta calls on Channel 4 to axe not only its promotional videos featuring exploitative puppy yoga,
It goes against one of the fundamental principles of yoga: ahimsa, doing no harm,
“Peta urges yogis to stay away from a cheap ploy that uses sensitive animals as props and stick to downward dog with your rescued pup.”
This comes after a MP’s from the environment, food and rural affairs committee (DEFRA) ruled that the use of puppy’s for yoga sessions was ‘cruelty’.
Committee chair Robert Goodwill said: “It isn’t that we need to change the law, it’s already against the law to be cruel to animals, and I believe this is cruelty.
“These puppies are being exploited, there’s no evidence in the film that the animals were enjoying the contact with people.”
