My boyfriend hardly shows affection towards me – now I know why

DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE to beg and plead with my boyfriend for a kiss and a cuddle, never mind sex.

I was beginning to think he didn’t love me, even though he insists he does. He was cheated on in two previous relationships so I put it down to that.

We are both 31.

I’ve always wondered if there is something wrong with me – especially when I see my girlfriends with their partners.

These couples are all affectionate with one another, whereas I’m lucky to get a peck on the cheek.

My boyfriend doesn’t do public shows of affection and even when we are alone, I’ll say, “Can I have a kiss, please?” But I came home tonight to see him looking worried.

He said he had some-thing to tell me and confessed a family member had abused him when he was a child. I feel so terrible now.

I imagine this is why he isn’t into sex or being near me.

DEIDRE SAYS:  Yes, quite probably. It is good that he has taken you into his confidence.

It may have been the first time he’s talked about this, and could be the start of his healing.
