Darwin Nunez makes incredible gesture to follow team-mate Luis Diaz’s lead as he takes over legend’s shirt number
DARWIN NUNEZ has made a kind gesture to Liverpool fans after changing his squad number.
The Reds ace has swapped his No.27 for the N.09 shirt ahead of the upcoming season.
The shirt number was vacated after Roberto Firmino left the club following the expiry of his contract.
Firmino has since completed a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli which will see him earn a whopping £17million per season.
Nunez, 24, however will be hoping to follow in his footsteps and become an important player for the Reds next season.
And he has endowed himself to the club’s supporters after promising to “personally” reimburse those who has bought a shirt with his old squad number on it.
A statement on Liverpool’s website read: “Fans who have already purchased new 2023-24 home and away jerseys printed with the name ‘Darwin’ and the number ‘27’ will be personally reimbursed by Nunez with a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Darwin 9’ shirt.”
The exchange will only apply to all “Darwin 27” 2023/24 home and away shirts of kits that have been bought from the club’s retail outlets and from the club’s online store.
The club have confirmed that any qualifying items must be returned with proof of purchase before 11.59pm on August 19.
The shirts and kit that are returned will be donated to the LFC Foundation.

Another Liverpool star, Luiz Diaz, made the same offer to fans after he changed his shirt number for the No.23 to the No.7.
Nunez arrived at Anfield last summer after completing an £85million switch from Benfica.
His debut campaign in England did not quite go to plan as he was sent off in his home debut.
Nunez failed to be prolific during the season, but did manage to net 14 goals in all competitions in 40 appearances.
