Five things I’d never have in my home as a professional cleaner – a trendy favorite takes hours to scrub
A PROFESSIONAL cleaner has revealed five things she would never have in her home.
As far as she was concerned, they took far too much effort and time to clean.
One of these included a trendy favorite item that required constant attention to keep it gleamingly spotless.
Many hours in the trenches as a house cleaner has helped Victoria (@pocketrocketscleaning) distill her list.
“I’ve got a cleaning company so I’m gonna say five things that I wouldn’t have in my home from a cleaning point of view.
“As a professional cleaner I just found a bit of a pain,” she said.
First on her list was the circular shower and they were impossible said Victoria: “It took me two and a half hours to clean one in a client’s house.”
Flat screen showers can be squeegeed easily enough but not so on a circular one.
“It’s really difficult to [do that] on the circular one. The rails underneath get so lime scaled,” she added, “and it’s really hard to clean them because of it, even with a toothbrush, so I would never have them.”
Next up were the notoriously difficult-to-clean horizontal slat blinds.
“They attract so much dust and they’re really sort of time-consuming and a pain to clean,” wrote the cleaning pro.
She had a confession to make with the third trendy item: she actually had one, but wasn’t happy with it.
“A black matte fridge. It shows up on every mark. Anytime someone takes something out of the fridge, there are fingerprint marks where they grab it. It’s just not the case on a white fridge.”
Vertiginous hallways with out-of-reach lighting annoyed her a lot.
“Some clients [have] got fancy lighting in the stairway which is all good and well and it looks amazing, except it’s impossible to reach and so to clean it is an absolute nightmare.
“Ladders don’t reach.” Chandeliers were also a nuisance she said: “They are dust collectors. Unless you’re going to take them down and clean every stone, they’re a no-go for me.”
Finally, her ire was for high gloss floor tiles often seen in kitchens and bathrooms.
“They show up everything, every footprint, every watermark, every crumb, and just really difficult to keep shiny,” she complained.
Commenters to her post concurred with her shortlist.
“As a self-employed cleaner, I totally agree with you on these,” said this fan.
This householder was fed up with her appliance: “My fridge is silver and no joke I spend my life wiping the finger marks off. It’s a full-time job. Never again,” she said with exasperation.
The closing commenter said she had it spot on: “I have all of these except the tiles and agree with everything you say.”
