I transformed my one-bed flat into multiple rooms using a budget buy you can get on Amazon – it’s saved me hundreds
A MUM has revealed how she saved thousands on rent turning her one-bed flat into a two-bed with a budget Amazon buy.
The young woman from the US shared the nifty trick on TikTok.
In the clip, the mum revealed how she gave her toddler her own room without forking out hundreds on rent for a two-bed home.
She said: “So when shopping around for a current apartment I realised that a one-bedroom was cheaper and actually had more square footage than a two-bedroom.”
She revealed that the apartment she got had a bonus room so she decided to make the most of it.
The mum explained: “We put in room dividers and decided to make it our toddler’s bedroom.”
“It’s perfect because she can have her privacy at night and then I can also open it up during the day and have complete eyes on her.”
The room, which is also home to the kitchen was very spacious and she bought a room divider from Amazon, which allowed the mum to put up a curtain and divide the space in two.
The ceiling rack is flexible so can be fitted around any space and needs no nails to be hung up.
It was a bargain price at £36 and also comes with a curtain.
“This hack saves us hundreds a month,” she captioned the clip posted to her account @thisotcan.
The video went viral with over one million views and over 140k likes – but not everyone was convinced it was a good idea.
Many claimed it was dangerous to put her in the front room where the entrance door was located, but the mum was quick to explain it wasn’t the front room.
One person wrote: “Great idea! I would be a little apprehensive with her bedroom being where the front door is though.”
The mum replied: “It’s a patio door and we’re on the top floor.”
Another commented: “You are legally required to provide her with a safe room to sleep in. She has access to the stove, the curtain could catch on fire easily.”
“Good idea but I would’ve given my child the bedroom. And made the living room my room with a nice pull out couch that I can put away during the day,” penned a third.
However, some praised the mum for her innovative idea.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Normalise this!!!! Go mum! This looks bomb.”
“Ya’ll freaking out about the door to the balcony as if rich kids don’t have that in their private bedrooms in those big houses,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “I love this! A mother will always make it work for their babies! I’m thinking about doing this, but making the “living room” my room and the room my son.”
