I’m an urban gardener – the lesson I learned the hard way, my planting tip will save you hundreds of dollars
A VETERAN gardener shared lessons that she learned from experience.
She said she learned one tip that would save novices hundreds of dollars and they can avoid her costly mistake.
Kia Jade (@kia_urbangardener) shared the advice with over 40,000 TikTok followers.
“These are three things that I wish I knew about gardening before I got started,” she said.
She explained that being an urban gardener hasn’t limited her ability to grow whatever her heart desires.
“You can grow anything you want in pots, any vegetable that you wanna grow I can guarantee you, you can grow it in a pot,” she said.
“Just make sure you have the right soil, the right drainage, the right depth, and the right size.”
As for soil, the gardener recommended chipping in for premium soil and potting mix.
“Yates is a really great brand that I use, it’s a little bit more expensive but trust me, your plants will thank you for it.”
Last but not least, she explained that gardening can sometimes be seen as an investment.
“This is one of the things that I have to learn the hard way — instead of spending a lot of money on seedlings, buy seeds,” she said.
“It does take a bit longer but if you’re buying seeds, it’s going to last you a really long time, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck and you will save hundreds of dollars.”
People took to the comments to share their thoughts on her tips.
“So you’re saying I didn’t have to grow 250 oregeno plants in a single summer…” joked one commenter.
Others vouched for her advice: “Marigolds grow really easily from seeds, I planted all of the seeds in the packet and now I have more plants than I know what to do with,” said another.
