My husband is adamant about giving our daughter a unique name – I hate it & know she’ll get bullied forever
PICKING the right name for your child is a daunting task, we all know that.
One mum has been left in turmoil after her husband picked out a ‘dreadful’ baby name for their little girl she is sure will cause her issues for the rest of life.
Her husband has decided to give their daughter a relatively normal name, but of course there was a twist to make it extra special.
The name would be pronounced Elsie but the dad wanted to spell it as Ehllsyie.
Taking to Mumsnet, the mum asked others for advice on the peculiar moniker.
She penned: “Ehllsyie as an alternative spelling of Elsie.. Thoughts?
“My partner suggested it but I think it’s awful!
“Looks dreadful lol and would condemn our poor daughter to a lifetime of having to say “it’s same as Elsie but spelt….” Argh!”
The mum’s post was inundated with comments from fellow parents who confirmed it was a terrible choice.
Many advised the mum to change her husband’s mind before it was too late while others claimed he must hate their child.
One person wrote: “Erm.. no. Why? Elsie has a spelling. If he doesn’t like the spelling, he doesn’t really like the name. I have a REALLY common 90s name, spelt differently. It’s a pain in the a**e.
“I’ve changed it officially on most things but a couple of things, like my original email, use the old spelling; and it just causes pointless trouble.”
Another commented: “Why does he hate his child?”
“Atrocious,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Why? Why would anyone do that? Don’t saddle a child with an “alternative” spelling.”
“Lol very youneeeque,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Ridiculous! Assume he was winding you up?”
