Emmerdale heartbreak as beloved villager is killed off after 12 years as actor quits soap
EMMERDALE shock as beloved character is killed off after 12 years in heartbreaking scenes.
The ITV soap said goodbye tonight to actor Bhasker Patel as his character Rishi Sharma died in tragic circumstances.
Bhasker joined the soap as Rishi, the head of the then new Sharma family in 2011.
But tonight Rishi died alone after missing his son Jai’s wedding.
Actor Bhasker said: “Thanks for watching Rishi over the years. I feel privileged to have been part of the show for 12 years.
“I have loved it and will miss it enormously, especially my friends and working in the beautiful village of Emmerdale. Thank you for watching. Stay safe Bhasker”
Viewers know Rishi was disinvited from the wedding because he refused to tell Jai who his biological father was.
In tonight’s episode he finally revealed the truth – that his brother is Jai’s biological father and Rishi took him on to spare the conservative family the shame of an unwed child.
Jai was horrified to hear the secret that meant he had his true parentage kept from him his entire life – but eventually he agreed to Rishi coming to the wedding even though he’d stormed off.
Georgia told her son she would sort it and called her ex-husband and left him a voicemail begging him to get to the church.
But as Rishi listened to Georgia’s message, he realised he was being stupid.
Getting ready for the wedding, he called himself a “silly old fool” and set off to watch the nuptials.
However at the church, Rishi was a no show.
Georgia was furious but Jai just brushed it off insisting he would be focusing on Laurel and their happy day.
Even as the reception got under way in The Woolpack, Jai held out hope that his dad would turn up and Georgia made him realise that everything Rishi did it was for him.
“Apart from a few hiccups this morning, we’ve had a really fantastic day,” Jai said to all his guests.
“And about one of those hiccups – there’s a few that are missing today – friends and family, and one of those in particular who is both – my dad, my friend.
“We’ve had our ups and downs me and him, lately but that’s just daft, isn’t it? Life is too short. So first chance I get I’m going to tell him how much he means to me.
“And I think we should all remember those who are important to us, whoever they are. So please raise your glasses everyone to absent friends and family.”
But as Jai finished speaking the awful truth was revealed back at Holdgate.
