Springwatches’ Chris Packham forced to call police again after his partner and step daughter are targeted by trolls
SPRINGWATCH’S Chris Packham has been forced to call the police again after his partner and stepdaughter were the victims of vile trolling.
Furious Chris described the tweet that was sent to Charlotte Corney, 47, and Megan McCubbin, 28, as “racial, racist and xenophobic”.
The naturist, who is currently being hounded for his support for Just Stop Oil protestors, said he was lucky that his family were “robust”.
Chris told The Mirror: “The content of the tweet was about violence to women and it was also racial, racist and xenophobic.
“I am lucky that Charlotte and Megan have grown to be robust and understand I cannot stop doing what I do, so we have had to learn to deal with that type of abuse because it’s only going to go on and get worse.”
Charlotte owns The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and Megan, who is the daughter of Jo McCubbin, is a zoologist and TV presenter.
Chris has been targeted by criminals who put a car bomb outside his home in an arson attack in October 2021.
The Land Rover exploded and set fire to his gates and fence at his New Forest home. He has since had the damaged fence made into a coffee table as an act of defiance.
Amid the hate that he is being subjected to, his career has taken a huge step forward.
He is following in David Attenborough’s footsteps and is now the new presenter of BBC’s Earth.
In the nature documentary, he explores the dangers of the climate crisis and in his personal life he is supporting the appeal against sentenced Just Stop Oil activist Marcus Decker, 34.
He visited HMP Highpoint last week, where Marcus is imprisoned for two years and seven months for scaling a bridge on the Dartford Crossing last year.
Chris, who has been protesting for the government to do something to address the world’s environmental state, called Decker’s sentence “draconian”.
He said that he thinks it’s “grossly unjust” that Decker was handed “such a long sentence”.
“He’s been basically victimised by a system that’s trying to repress our human right to protest and that’s a very dangerous precedent. He’s become a totemic symbol of that,” Chris added.
Chris said how he worried about the future of his stepdaughter, whose mum he was in a relationship with for ten years.
He is concerned about what the climate will look like over the next few decades, pointing out that sea temperatures around the UK have “gone through the roof”.
