UK weather: Brits will enjoy 24C TODAY as exact date heavy thunderstorms will take over is revealed
BRITS are set to bask in 24C sunshine today with more heat on the way – but the date that thunderstorms will take over has been revealed.
The Met Office is forecasting a warm run into the weekend, before a band of wet weather sweeps in from the West.
A cloudy start to this morning is expected to give way to extended sunny spells in many areas.
Highs of 24C are slated for this afternoon, rising to 26C tomorrow as the sunshine burns away overnight fog.
Some wind is predicted for the far North East, but forecasters say this will ease throughout the day.
However, showers are set to arrive on Friday afternoon, signalling a shift towards damper conditions.
Storm clouds then gather on Saturday, with downpours of up to 32mm an hour in parts of Scotland.
The worst of the weather is predicted to be concentrated across the North West, but southern areas could see the rain come down hard later in the day.
The Met’s forecast for the weekend reads: “Turning cooler and more unsettled from Friday with heavy showers possible Saturday.
“Showers continuing on Sunday, but with some drier spells in the South East.”
Going forward, the long-range forecast suggests that more “unsettled” weather is to come next week, with some “heavy and thundery” showers across the country.
The forecast adds: “Western regions are likely to see the greatest rainfall, but drier and brighter conditions are possible, the South East of England having the greatest chance of this.
“Generally breezy across the country with temperatures for many around average for the time of year, perhaps slightly below in wet or windy conditions.”
This trend is set to continue towards the end of the month as Britain, capping off a wet and windy summer.
