Coronation Street star confirms huge return for beloved character after three years
CORONATION Street favourite has confirmed a highly-anticipated return to the soap three years after quitting.
Lucy Fallon – who plays the iconic Bethany Platt – will be reprising her role after a break.
The 27-year-old has played the troubled teen for five years and has been part of some huge storylines, including the child grooming storyline.
Lucy won the Best Female Dramatic Performance award at the 2018 British Soap Awards for her incredible acting in the controversial storyline.
Bethany was last seen in 2020 leaving the cobbles to pursue a career in journalism and work for a magazine in London.
Before her exit, Bethany was in an ill-fated relationship with Daniel Osbourne, who was still grieving over his wife Sinead.
Since leaving the ITV soap, the actress has welcomed her first child, Sonny Jude, with her footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson earlier this year.
She has appeared in the Audible audio drama Sour Hall, alongside Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie and period drama Tom Jones for ITVX and PBS, which premiered earlier this year.
Lucy has remained close to her on-screen Platt family, especially her on-screen mum Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt.
Tina recently celebrated her 40th birthday and shared snaps from the momentous occasion with her followers on social media.
Taking to her Instagram stories, the Platt family posed for a family picture with Tina’s delicious chocolate birthday cake.
Tina acknowledged that her on-screen daughter Lucy wasn’t here and confirmed she will be returning.
She wrote: “Yesterday treated to a surprise celebration with me wonderful Platt fam. We will a full one soon @paddybever and @lucyfallonx.”
A TV source told the Sun: “Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back, and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed.
“She discussed it with her boyfriend, and family, because she’s a mum now with a baby.
“Once they’d talked about childcare, and how best to juggle it all, she was able to say she’d love to return. Everyone is very excited.”
Filming for Bethany’s big comeback scenes will begin in the coming months, however, these scenes are set to air after Christmas.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
