I asked to split the check on vacation in the south of France and learned my lesson – my server took it the wrong way
A RESTAURANT-GOER has revealed her experience asking to split the bill in a foreign country.
While dining on vacation in the south of France, a server took her request a bit too literally.
She filmed her elaborate dinner, including pasta, cheese, and freshly sliced baguettes[/caption]Rosaria Sarnacchiaro (@rosarrrria) filmed herself out at dinner in a video on TikTok.
She was sitting in front of a bowl of pasta, cheese, and freshly sliced baguettes.
“Tip when visiting the south of France,” read the text. “Don’t ask to split the bill.”
In the next clip the bill arrived in an unexpected condition — torn straight down the middle.
The video stunned viewers who lent their suggestions for how to dine with a friend without asking the waiter to split the bill.
“The craziest thing here is trying to split a 35 tab,” one wrote. “Oh my God. Did Venmo go obsolete?”
“Surely your friend can pay for you and the next time it’s on you,” another added.
“Does no one have banking apps where they can pay their half to whoever put it on their card?” a third commented.
One viewer who also visited the south of France claimed that they’ve gone half on a bill with no problems.
“They did that for us in most restaurants,” the commenter wrote. “I don’t know where you guys are going.”
An expert in the service industry concurred with the French waiter’s decision to tear the bill in half.
“As someone who works in hospitality I can say we hate splitting bills,” the viewer said.
The video came as part of a trend where influencers share their culture shocks while on vacation.
With August in full force and summer coming to a close, many people are sharing their personal travel stories on social media.
