Cop who had ‘fascination bordering on the obsessive’ with young women is jailed for raping teen and female colleague
A VILE cop who had a “fascination bordering on the obsessive” with young women has been jailed for raping a colleague and a teen girl.
Adam Provan, 44, repeatedly raped the Met Police officer and a 16-year-old girl in a seven-year reign of terror.
He carried out a vile campaign of abuse against his colleague and pinned her down with a pillow over her face as he attacked her.
Provan has now been jailed for 16 years after he was convicted of eight charges of rape.
Sentencing, Judge Noel Lucas said the fiend had displayed a “cold-blooded entitlement to sex” then immediately behaved as if everything was “completely normal”.
He also slammed the Met Police for being “more concerned with looking after one of their own” than taking the victims seriously.
Had the force investigated properly, the 16-year-old girl may have been spared, the judge added.
During his two-day sentencing hearing, it was revealed the predator had 751 female contacts in his mobile.
Wood Green Crown Court heard there were details on his phone that “strongly suggested” there was sexual activity with the women, many of whom were young.
Provan abused his position in the Met’s East Area Command Unit to gain the trust of young women.
Prosecutor Anthony Metzer KC said Provan had an “extended history of allegations” of sexual misconduct dating back to the 1990s.
The hundreds of contacts on his phone suggested a “fascination bordering on the obsessive” with young women.
Provan targeted the 16-year-old girl after meeting her through a friend in 2010.
The predator groomed the dance student and lied about his age – claiming to be 22 – when he was 31 at the time.
He raped her in woodland in Romford after telling the girl he was taking her to the cinema.
Provan also forced her to perform a sex act on him in a children’s play area.
The brave teenager has had to go through two trials to see her rapist brought to justice.
She told a relative she had been attacked at the time but it was not reported to police until 2016.
Provan was later convicted and jailed for nine years before being sacked from the Met in March 2019.
But he successfully appealed against those convictions and they were quashed in 2022.
A retrial began in May this year, along with six new counts of rape relating to the second victim.
In her victim impact statement, the teen said her life “changed forever” the day she met Provan.
She added: “No prison sentence will take away the harm Adam Provan has caused me. No amount of justice will make me forget the date from hell.
“Even though I tried my best to block it out I will never forget how scared I was when the assault took place, and 13 years later reliving my worst nightmare.”
His second victim told the court she lived in “constant fear” that Provan would kill her.
“Jekyll and Hyde” character Provan would physically and mentally abuse the female officer.
She said he would constantly mock her weight – leaving her feeling “fat and overweight”.
Describing one of the attacks, the woman added: “It was the worst thing. It was humiliating. I have never felt so degraded.
“I was under his control. I was young and stupid. I wanted to pretend all was fine.”
Sadly, her repeated cries for help over his “abuse and harassment” were met with “years of silence” by employers at the Met.
Judge Noel Lucas previously slammed the under-fire Met after Provan was convicted.
He said: “The treatment by the Met Police of a female officer’s complaint was shocking.
“Those who dealt with [the female officer] at the time must feel extremely ashamed of their behaviour.”
