Warning as popular meat products urgently recalled by Aldi over allergy fears
ALDI has recalling two popular meat products over fears they may trigger dangerous allergic reactions.
The supermarket’s Deli Salami Selection and Deli Continental Selection are being recalled ‘due to the possible presence of milk’.
Brits who’ve bought affected batches have been urged to not eat the mix of salami and cured ham, if they have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.
Milk allergy symptoms can range from just a rash and itching to vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
And severe cases, it can cause anaphylaxis – a severe, life-threatening reaction when swelling in the throat can block the airways.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) which issued the alert this week, recalls food considered unsafe for human consumption.
It a statement to customers, it said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling The Deli Salami selection and The Deli Continental Selection, because they contain milk which is not declared on the packaging.
“Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.”
People who cannot consume milk are either allergic to the proteins in cow’s milk or they cannot digest the sugar in the product, known as lactose intolerance.
Around three in 100 babies have a cow’s milk allergy but most grow out of it during their childhood, the NHS says.
Older children and adults who are allergic to cow’s milk usually have a more serious allergy.
Many products on supermarket shelves that are not dairy products still contain milk, such as, cereals, bread, biscuits, crackers, sauces and cakes.
The alert comes as Tesco urgently recalled four popular pastry products over fears they contain pieces of metal and plastic.
Batches of sausage rolls, steak and ale pies, and cheese and onion rolls could be contaminated and are unsafe to eat, officials warned this week.
