Urgent Spain holiday warning over horror home raider gang after Brit tortured into revealing hidden money stash
SPANISH police are hunting three thugs who stole £10,000 worth of cash from a British expat after breaking into his home and torturing him.
The unnamed victim, 60, was left “covered in blood” and needing hospital treatment after his property in Alhaurin el Grande was broken into.
The Andalusian town is located around a 40-minute drive inland from the Costa del Sol resort of Marbella.
The expat, who was described as “well built”, was eating dinner alone when the home invaders forced their way in.
Despite an initial attempt to resist their invasion, the thugs tied him up and beat him until he confessed where he kept his hidden stash of money.
He also received an electric shock from a stun gun once the criminals had incapacitated him using cable ties around his wrists.
It is understood that he had just received around £10,000 in cash as a house sale deposit ahead of a planned move back to the UK.
But well-placed sources said they suspected the robbers knew about the large sum of money after receiving a tip-off.
Eventually, the victim raised the alarm after managing to free himself of his hand ties and alert neighbours.
Costa police have since launched an investigation into the incident, which is being led by the Civil Guard.
However, the three suspects hid their faces with balaclavas, although it is understood that they are Spanish.
Authorities are led to believe that they live locally because they appeared to be familiar with the area and its escape routes.
The Civil Guard are also investigating whether the crime is linked to other break-ins in the area.
This includes one in which the house of a friend of the British victim, also from the UK, was targeted as he enjoyed a night out in Alhaurin el Grande.
The Civil Guard in Malaga, which doesn’t usually comment on ongoing investigations, has yet to make any official declarations.
