I’m an interior design expert – the most common mistakes people make in their bedrooms, and there’s a ‘cardinal sin’
FROM the position of your bed to the pillows you put on it, bedroom decor can make or break your space.
An interior design expert revealed the four most common mistakes people make when it comes to decorating their bedrooms.
In his video, TikTok user Phoenix Grey (@mrphoenixgrey) shared the errors and offered easy solutions.
For his first tip, the TikToker told his followers that furnishing your bed with just a comforter and pillows is “a major red flag.”
He explained: “You don’t need to go overboard with décor but you want to create a welcoming and cozy environment.
“Bringing in extra elements to create that cloud effect is much more inviting than your typical hotel bed.
“You want to be comfortable and you want to give it that cloud-like appearance that really gives you that impression to be able to jump right in and snuggle up,” Phoenix said.
He also advised his followers to give significant thought to where they place their beds.
“The bed is typically the focal point in any room and it sets the tone for the entire space,” he told viewers.
Phoenix explained that “the overall aesthetic and natural flow” of the room can be disrupted if the bed is pushed up against a window.
“Making an impact with bedding, pillows, and throws to draw your attention to the largest piece of furniture in the room can really set the space,” he said.
The interior designer recommended centering your bed as much as possible.
For his next suggestion, Phoenix highlighted the importance of the “less is more” concept.
He explained: “Overcrowding the bedroom is another really big factor, I want you to really tone it down and think about the negative space around all the furniture pieces that are set in the room.
The design pro recommended maximizing the space by avoiding oversized furniture pieces that contribute to a chaotic atmosphere.
Finally, Phoenix revealed the “cardinal sin of bedroom mistakes” to his followers.
He advised his audience: “Wash your damn sheets more than once a month.”
In the clip’s caption, the expert said this tip was the most important one to follow.
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the advice.
“I like to lean against the wall of pillows when I read in bed, why do so many people hate back support?” wrote one viewer.
Another follower said: “Nope! The bed is for me to sleep. Not for my pillows to sleep. Two max! I wash my sheets weekly!”
“YES!!!!!! Wash your bedding and make your bed every morning!!! Consider it a reward for yourself,” commented a third person.
