Terrifying cursed picture returned to charity shop twice by shaken customers desperate to get rid of it
A SPOOKY portrait has been returned twice by terrified customers of a charity shop.
The painting of a young stern-faced girl with piercing eyes was even given a label warning: “Possibly cursed.”
The shop manager told The Sun: “The two shaken owners talked of the portrait having a creepy aura.”
It was among half-a-dozen pictures donated by a grey-haired man at the Hastings Advice Representation Centre in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.
The shop boss, who would give his name only as Steve, said it was bought by a woman for £25.
Two days later she brought it back. Steve said: “She was in a panic and babbled, ‘I’ve got to get rid of this picture’.
“We put it in the window with a sign saying ‘Possibly cursed’ as a bit of a joke.”
A second woman bought it for £20 but returned it “shaky and distressed”.
Neither buyer wanted a refund, and Steve put the painting on show for a third time — now with a sticker reading: “She’s back!!! Sold twice and returned twice! Are you brave enough?”
A snap of it went viral — and sparked a flood of inquires from horror fans.
Steve said: “People are coming here non-stop now. I’ve had people calling to ask if we have any more cursed items they can pick up.”
The interest prompted the portrait’s second buyer to return and take it again.
Steve explained: “She’s decided she’s no longer scared. She offered to buy it again but I told her she could just have it.”
