I’m a DIY whizz and added a trendy gold rail to my kitchen wall with zero drilling – a £7 buy from Amazon did the trick
A DIY whizz has showcased how she created a sturdy kitchen rail with zero drilling.
Kaitlyn Louise dubbed it her “IKEA rail hack” using the homeware giant’s Hultarp range.
Rather than drilling the steel rail into her tiles, she enlisted the help of a £7 Amazon buy.
Kaitlyn used the MileQee ten pack of Large Double Sided Adhesive Pads for Mounting to stick the rail to the wall – which works out at 70p per sticker.
“IKEA rail hack with no drilling,” she penned in the caption of her demonstrative TikTok video.
“I didn’t want to drill into the tiles so I found these strong adhesive pads.”
However, it wasn’t as simple as stick and go.
Kaitlyn cut the pads in half to fit onto the handle of the IKEA rail and then stuck it to the wall.
“Press firmly and then leave for 24 hours before putting things on,” she said.
The exact rail she used was IKEA’s Hultarp in polished brass colour, setting her back £6.
On the rail, she placed Hultarp hooks in the same colour, which cost £5 for a five pack, and the Hultarp white bucket container which costs £6.
She hung kitchen utensils, such as a whisk and sieve, onto the hooks.
Some viewers of Kaitlyn’s video weren’t too sure whether the adhesive pads would be sturdy enough to hold the rail up.
“Cute but that’s gonna come crashing down in the middle of the night,” one warned.
“That is going to scare the tar out of you when it comes crashing down,” a second penned.
Others claimed they gave the rail “two weeks” before it fell off the wall.
However, fans of the design were quick to jump to Kaitlyn’s defence.
“These types of stickers DO hold up,” one stated.
“Whenever you use any kind of double sided tape to hang things, it’s usually best to let it sit for a day or overnight before putting weight on it,” another affirmed.
