I love colourful cabinets but they’re expensive – so I created my own with a B&M sideboard, cardboard and lick of paint
A DIY expert has revealed how she created a bespoke pink sideboard cabinet on a budget after finding the ones in furniture shops were too expensive.
Kate at Our Bears Home said she is “obsessed with the result” after spending an afternoon on the rosy DIY project.
She shared the process on her TikTok profile, showcasing how she turned a £80 B&M two door cabinet from oak-finished to out-there.
Demand for colourful homeware has rocketed in recent months and people turn away from grey and cream-hued homes in favour of vibrant spaces.
“I wanted to create a colourful cabinet but they were too expensive,” Kate penned over her tutorial.
“So I created my own on a budget.
“Now I have a bespoke piece for less.”
She used B&M’s Ezra Two Door Sideboard which originally comes with a rustic oak finish.
B&M says that the 80 cm by 76 cm cabinet has “easy self assembly”.
Kate firstly assembled the cabinet before electrically sanding it for primer and sealant.
On the doors, she used Gorilla Glue to stick down cardboard diamond and circle shapes for a creative design to lay the pink paint over.
She used Rust-Oleum Flint Matt Furniture paint in a pink hue for the body of the cabinet, applying it with a roller brush.
The closest shade available to the one she used is Rust-Oleum’s Pink Champagne, which is available at B&Q for £19.
For the handles, Kate wanted something contrasting so she spray-painted them a vibrant green.
Once assembled, she placed the funky cabinet by her garden doors and decorated it with a vase of flowers and a candle.
Kate called her creation a “pink beauty”.
“Super cute,” one fan of the design beamed in the comments. “Well done you.”
“This looks soooo good,” another penned.
Kate replied that she “loves the pink”.
Her bio reads that she is “always planning a new project”, with recent ones being a garden makeover and repurposing her old spice jars as plant pots.
