I’m a mum-of-10 and I spend £300 on meat alone every month – including weekly steak dinners
A MUM-OF-TEN has revealed that her family eats so much, she spends over £300 on beef alone every month.
Taina Licciardo-Toivola has built a brand for herself on social media posing exclusively in white tees with her kids – and their eating habits are just as synchronised.
The 45-year-old’s children are Leonardo, 24, Cleopatra, 22, Jerusalem, 21, Romeo, 19, D’Artagnan, 15, Shakespeare, 12, Nefertiti, eight, KingJames, seven, Aphrodite, six, and Omega, five.
According to the family, little Shakespeare is their nominated cook most days.
They particularly admire his steak cooking abilities as he has the ‘done’ levels, from rare to well done, down to a fine art.
“Butchers were actually interested [in how a young boy cooks steak],” mum Taina said in a YouTube video about the family’s eating habits.
“Of course they would be, we go there every month and buy about $600 worth of meat.”
That works out just over £300 a month – but Taina said she can sometimes spend up to £200 on meat for one week.
Even the younger kids chomp down on steak and potato dinners on a weekly basis.
The family mainly eat beef and “refuse” to eat any pig products, such as sausages or bacon.
Romeo revealed that the family stores their ground beef in the freezer by flattening it into kilos and wrapping it in clingfilm, so it easily stacks up and takes up less room.
He does this after every butcher visit, and it takes him around three hours.
“We don’t eat the same meals every day,” Jerusalem assured.
“But for us, we could eat every day like this.
“I eat 5000 calories a day and I don’t get anywhere. Doesn’t matter what I do, I don’t gain weight.”
The Licciardo-Toivola’s dine together most nights, and thanks to living in Australia have regular al-fresco feasts.
Taina, who is Finnish-Australian, recently divulged that everyone sleeps on the floor in their three-bedroom house too.
There are no set bedrooms, with the older boys tending to sleep in a room together and the younger kids in the room with her and her husband.
The third bedroom is for Cleopatra and her one-year-old daughter Sacagawea.
The family sleeps on futons – a floor mattress or sofa that is thinner than a traditional mattress.
