NTAs in ‘fix’ row as This Morning loses out on Daytime gong for the first time in 12 years
THE National Television Awards has become embroiled in a ‘fix’ row after This Morning lost out on the Daytime gong.
The Holly Willoughby fronted show’s domination of the category was ended by the feelgood BBC show which sees a team of experts fix up family heirlooms in tear-jerking episodes.
While many were delighted about the result, others weren’t so sure The Repair Shop should have been on the shortlist at all owing to its evening air time.
It was an anomaly in the category due to its 8pm broadcast time on the BBC, while its rivals all screen much earlier.
One viewer asked: “When did the repair shop start playing on daytime TV????”
Another posted: “Isn’t The Repair Shop broadcast in the evening? If so, how was it even nominated in the Daytime category?”
A third said: “Is the repair shop really daytime?”
Some This Morning staffers were reportedly upset by the outcome.
It’s been a year of turmoil for the programme which lost its veteran host Phillip Schofield in May after he admitted to having an affair with a much younger male member of staff.
A source said: “This Morning have won the Daytime award for 12 years so to lose now is a real kick in the teeth.
“There is a feeling that all the scandal surrounding Phil and what happened has damaged the brand.
“It is so hard for the team behind This Morning because they work so hard.
“Holly is doing her best to get the public back onside but it will take a while for the show to get back its popularity. She’s key to the future of This Morning’s success.”
Holly, 42, arrived at the bash without Phil, 61, for the first time.
She told The Sun she was keen to distance herself from the upset, adding: “It’s been a difficult year.
“People want to move on now. It feels different. If I am really honest, it has been up and down.
“But what’s lovely is you find that people rally around you and the goodwill is there.”
