Moment ferry passenger PUSHED into water by crew & sucked down by propellers to his death after leaping onto Crete ship
THIS is the jaw dropping moment a member of staff pushed a ferry passenger to his death in a Brit holiday hot spot.
The 36-year-old man was sucked into the ferry propellers and died, officials said, at the port of Piraeus in Greece.
Video footage showed the man running up moments before the ferry was meant to depart and leaping onto the ramp.
Two crew members with Blue Horizon Ferries then pushed him backwards and attempted to stop him from boarding.
He tried again, before the crew members pushed him with such force that he fell into the waters below and was sucked to his death.
Another video appeared to show his lifeless body floating after the harrowing incident.
After the man entered the water, the ferry continued its departure towards Crete.
His body was retrieved some time later, but it remains unclear if he hit his head and died, drowned, or was sucked into the propellers.
The captain and crew of the Blue Horizon ferry were arrested following the man’s death.
Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the Minister of Shipping, said: “I express my sadness for the tragic incident in the port of Piraeus in which one person lost his life.
“All the necessary actions are being taken by the Piraeus Port Authority to clarify the case and assign responsibility.”
The Greek Coast Guard said: “‘A man fell in the port of Piraeus during the sailing of the Blue Horizon. He was recovered unconscious and taken to the General State Hospital of Nikaia. The ship is returning to Piraeus.”
The video, shared widely online, has infuriated many as the crew appeared to continue their duties after the man went overboard.
One viewer said: “Unbelievable! What animals, what beasts, what monsters does this society give birth to? I wish the worst in prison for them.”
Another chimed in: “The ship then sailed… Does anyone have anything to say?”
One viewer observed: “He turned his back instead of helping. He pushed him, then turned his back.”
The Sun has reached out to Blue Horizon Ferries for a statement.
