I was quoted £6k to have my garden landscaped but did it myself on the cheap – everyone says it looks amazing
A DIY whizz has revealed she landscaped her own garden after being quoted £6k to get the professionals in.
Anna, who lives with her partner Tom and pooch Coco, dug up a whopping 5.5 tonnes of mud during the outdoor renovation.
She admits it is the hardest DIY project she has embarked on but was “so worth it” to save thousands of pounds.
Anna and Tom live in a new build property, meaning they were burdened with a bog-standard small and yellow-tiled patio when they moved in.
And rather than paying for landscapers, the pair hopped on YouTube and began transforming their outdoor space through tutorials and online advice.
It was the first DIY project the couple embarked on when they moved into their home.
Once they had dug up over 5 tonnes of mud, they levelled the ground and dug out some trenches with a breeze block border, which was later filled with cement.
For the wall around their newly-dug patio area, they used hollow breeze blocks and rendered it with cement.
Once the tiles were levelled and laid, Anna was able to get creative.
She painted the DIY walls around the patio white and bought lots of trendy furniture from The Range, Very and Dellonda.
Unfortunately, she does not have a tutorial for the project as it was completed when she was just getting started with content creation for her social media brand, Our Home Style.
“We also did all of it during lockdown but I worked in a school during this so Tom did lots of the work whilst I wasn’t there,” Anna explained on Instagram.
“I hope this does help anyone considering doing their garden.
“It absolutely can be done, but my advice is to research, invest in the right tools and take it step-by-step.”
Anna recently revealed that her “toxic trait” is spending more time cleaning her white patio rather than enjoying it.
“It’s a lot of effort for about ten days a year,” she said.
“But if I had the choice again, I’d choose these white porcelain tiles next time too.
“Between work, actual weekends when it’s sunny and we are free, I reckon Coco spends more time playing in this garden than we do.
“But the White slabs are so worth it. They look stunning, even if I do say so myself.
“They clean up pretty easily too and they are the style of decor I can never see me falling out of love with.”
