Everyone told me not to wear my ‘inappropriate’ wedding guest dress because of my cleavage, I did it anyway
A WEDDING guest has decided to go against critics and wear the dress she wanted to wear to a wedding.
She said even though many people advised her against wearing it to the wedding, she did it anyway and was glad she did.
The Redditor, u/bleugreyoracle, shared the post in a forum that assisted with wedding attire approval.
“I wore the dress everyone told me not to,” she said, sharing a photo of herself in a deep green wrap dress.
She explained that months ago, she had posted to the sub asking for advice on the dress considering a wedding’s dress code.
She hadn’t anticipated the onslaught of negativity: ” I got a slew of comments about it being inappropriate because of the cleavage and a few comments about the dress being unflattering,” she said.
“Some people even said it was attention-seeking and I would be pulling attention away from the bride.”
Of course, the woman decided to wear the dress despite the critics and was glad she did.
“Literally no one at this small-ish reception batted an eye, there were other guests similarly dressed and I received many compliments,” she said.
She advised others on the forum to show kindness in the future, instead of judgment.
Some, while they agreed with her, believed she should temper her expectations about other people’s opinions.
“I think the dress is great and extremely flattering but you asked a bunch of Reddit strangers’ opinions and you should be prepared for opinions you may not like,” said one commenter.
Others explained that every wedding was its own special case and the vibe should be taken into consideration.
“I would wear that to a wedding in California where I live now without a second thought, but wouldn’t dream of wearing it to a wedding where I grew up in the Bible belt,” said one commenter.
“People are just speaking to what they know when they respond here and you have to take it with a grain of salt if you know the vibe of your community better.”
