I’m a cleaning fan – the 10p toothpaste hack everyone should be doing to make your washing machine smell amazing
PEOPLE are going wild for a 10p cleaning hack that makes your washing machine sparkle and smell divine.
A model and scrubbing whizz called Avril Albetti discovered the handy tip, which uses a fresh lemon and a squirt of toothpaste – and it’s so cheap, everyone wants to try it.
Taking to social media, Avril asked her followers: “Aren’t you tired of your washing machine smelling?
“Well, I’ve got the best hack for you.”
As she explains her method, Avril films herself chopping a juicy lemon in half.
She then produces a tube of toothpaste and squirts the contents onto the top of each lemon half like a Mr Whippy ice cream.
The red, white and blue stripes make it look good enough to eat, but the minty, zesty concoction is going straight into the drum of her washing machine.
“Take a lemon, cut it in half and be sure to take out all the seeds,” she instructs us.
“Get some toothpaste on there. Don’t be stingy but don’t be too greedy either – just the right amount.
“Put it in your machine, put it on a nice, hot normal wash.
“Come back and tell me that your house smells like the Four Seasons [hotel].”
The super cheap hack looks like it works wonders and while we can’t smell the difference through our phone screens, the frothy suds look like they’ll kick up the most glorious scent in her home.
Avril, who’s also an entrepreneur and comedian, has an impressive 156,000 followers on TikTok and boasts five million likes across her many videos.
Her washing machine hack is no exception to the rule, as almost 200 people have launched into the comments to share their opinions.
One happy user said: “Just used it today – number one.”
A second replied: “I thank you, Aunty Avi.”
And a third commented: “I will try this tomorrow, I have lots of lemons, thank you.”
Meanwhile, other savvy fans were keen to share their own tips and tricks for a sparkling home.
“I just use vinegar instead of softener and everything smells so clean,” said Jo Jo.
“Aunty Avi, use a little bicarbonate of soda instead of your normal sta-soft, does wonders and cleans the machine,” replied Jo Dee Francis.
“Another lemon hack: boil water with a lemon, cut it in half. Cleans the kettle beautifully,” said Demi Jamie Lee.
