This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Dermot O’Leary pay tribute to Matty Lock live on air after ITV star’s sudden death
HOLLY Willoughby and Dermot O’Leary today paid tribute to This Morning star Matty Lock following his shock death at the weekend.
Matty, who was just 19, first appeared on This Morning three years ago to talk about his hobby of collecting vacuum cleaners.
Today Dermot, 50, and Holly, 42, opened the show with some touching words about him.
Dermot said: “We’ve got some heartbreaking and horrible news to share with you this morning.
“One of the This Morning family members, Matty Lock, passed away this weekend.”
Holly added: “He was a much loved member of This Morning family and never failed to bring joy to our studio, with an infectious passion for technology and gadgets, which was truly unique.”
She added: “We send our deepest condolences to his family.”
Holly first paid tribute to Matty yesterday on social media.
She wrote: “Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19.
“He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious.
“His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career.”
And Rylan Clark, who used to present on the daytime ITV show, commented: “God that’s really sad. Sending love x”
Matty was a well loved member of the Labour Party in Sefton and Merseyside and was recently elected as a town councillor in Maghull. He was also a parish councillor in Lydiate.
