I live in a 45-room medieval castle – cleaning’s a nightmare and if you can’t find your keys you’re screwed
MOST people haven’t seriously considered living in a castle since they were a little kid reading fairy tales.
But for one whimsical TikTok influencer, that childhood dream has become a reality.
Ludovica shares videos about what it’s really like to live in a medieval castle with her 1.7m TikTok followers[/caption] The stunning, 800-year-old castle is without doubt picturesque – but Ludo says it’s a pain to find your keys in a hurry[/caption]Ludovica, who posts on TikTok under the username @TheCastleDiary, has lived in the 12th century fortress since childhood.
The huge Italian home has an interior that’s reportedly more than 10,000 sq foot, and has been in Ludo’s family for hundreds of years.
And luckily for us, the 20-something TikTok loves sharing videos showing all the benefits – and the occasional drawbacks – of residing in such a palatial residence.
In a recent video, Ludo shared that while people imagine that the castle is full of servants who wait on her hand and foot, the reality can be rather less glamorous.
While she jokingly filmed her and her friend prancing around in gorgeous medieval velvet dresses, she then cut to a more realistic shot of the two trying to vacuum and scrub the floors of the absolutely huge abode.
In another video, she laughed that “by the time you’re done with the cleaning, you have to start again”, while showing shots of the cobwebs that form all over the place, and the dust which collects on the ornaments and hanging portraits.
Ludo also adds that while people imagine her room to be adorned with decorative paintings, embellished ceilings and a luxurious bed, the reality is actually much more down-to-earth – it looks exactly the same as a modern room, even down to clothes rails and cuddly toys.
The humorous heiress also loves to joke about how difficult it is when you accidentally leave your keys or phone somewhere, and have to rift through the palace’s dozens of rooms to find it.
She filmed herself looking puffed out while she ascended the traditional winding stone staircase, with the tongue-in-cheek caption “When you live in a castle and are about to go out, but you forget something upstairs”.
The fanciful influencer also jokes about how “spooky” it can be living at the historic site, which is full of secret passages and hidden chambers.
In one clip, captioned: “When you live in a castle and your parents leave you all alone at night”, she filmed herself tiptoeing around the rooms armed with a frying pan and wearing a knight’s helmet.
She also shared that it can be terrifying when “you have to go to the bathroom at 3am”, and filmed herself wandering through the gloomy hallways and opening squeaky doors while holding a single candle to light the way.
Ludo also makes sure to point out there’s plenty of fun to be had, and has confessed that she spends hours “recreating scenes from Disney movies”.
In one such video, she perfectly acts out the sequence from ‘Frozen’ where Anna tries to get her sister’s attention, cycling through the halls and sliding down the bannister in perfect time with the lyrics.
But she’s sure to share that she’s subject to all the usual parental nags as anyone living in a more normal residence.
In one clip, captioned “When you just want to live your fairytale dreams in your castle, but your dad brings you back down to reality,” she films herself whirling around the ballroom – only for her dad to interrupt her and tell her to go and do her chores.
